Jordan wants answers about why the prosecutor in Hunter Biden’s case is refusing to hand over documents.

House Judiciary Committee Chairman Questions Prosecutor’s Denial of Requests

House Judiciary Committee Chairman Jim Jordan (R-Ohio) is raising concerns about U.S Attorney David Weiss, the prosecutor who struck a plea deal with Hunter Biden, for denying requests on Attorney General Merrick Garland’s behalf.

In a letter to Garland on May 25, Jordan had requested documents and communications related to the Department of Justice’s alleged retaliation against IRS whistleblowers investigating Biden.

In response, Weiss declined to accommodate Jordan’s requests, which the congressman described as “unusual” in his June 22 response.

“We reiterate those requests to the Department and expect to receive the responsive material promptly,” Jordan wrote.

Jordan also asked Weiss to provide a list of all those who assisted in drafting his June 7 letter, as well as the names of the people who “instructed” him to send it and who forwarded the committee’s letter.

The congressman also requested details of any conversations or communications Weiss had with Garland pertaining to the committee’s letter.

‘Political Considerations’

In his June 7 letter, Weiss stated that Jordan’s letter had been forwarded to him with a request to respond on behalf of the Justice Department.

Weiss emphasized that he has been granted ultimate authority over the matter and that his decisions are made without reference to political considerations.

Jordan, however, pointed out that the committee’s focus is on the Justice Department’s adherence to whistleblower protection laws, not on the prosecution of a particular person.

Concluding that the Justice Department has “no legitimate basis” to refuse his requests, Jordan gave Weiss until July 6 to provide all the requested documents and information.

Whistleblowers’ Claims

Jordan’s letter coincided with the House Ways and Means Committee’s release of sworn testimony from two IRS whistleblowers involved in the probe of Hunter Biden’s taxes.

The released documents reveal the individuals’ claims of witnessing privileged treatment for Biden, Justice Department interference, and retaliation.
