White House urges Beijing to cease support for Putin’s war efforts following Wagner Revolt.

The White House Urges China to Stop Supporting Russia’s Invasion of Ukraine

The recent Wagner mutiny in Russia has thrown the country’s domestic political balance into uncertainty, and the White House is calling on China to stop supporting Moscow’s invasion of Ukraine.

John Kirby, the White House national security spokesperson, stated that the Biden administration is closely monitoring the situation and its potential impact on Russia, Ukraine, and other European nations.

Furthermore, the White House is uncertain whether China will be more hesitant to back the Kremlin in light of this revolt.

During a press briefing, Kirby emphasized that it is up to the Chinese regime to decide how it will proceed in its relations with Moscow.

“We don’t want to see any country at all support Mr. Putin and make it easier for him to kill more Ukrainians,” Kirby said.

“We want to see every country around the world sign up and actually implement the [international] sanctions that are in place… and not provide any ability for Mr. Putin to continue to operate his war machine. And we have communicated that not just to the PRC, but to other countries all around the world.”

Russian President Vladimir Putin broke his silence on Monday, promising punishment for the leaders of the Wagner rebellion.

The Wagner Group, led by Yevgeny Prigozhin, initiated an armed mutiny against the Kremlin but later stood down and returned to base under a deal that supposedly withdrew criminal proceedings against Prigozhin in exchange for his exile in Belarus.

In his televised address, Putin referred to Wagner’s actions as a “stab in the back” and vowed to crush the rebellion.

Yevgeny Prigozhin, the outspoken millionaire head of the private military contractor Wagner, speaks during his interview at an unspecified location.

President Joe Biden, speaking at a White House event, revealed that he had been in close communication with U.S. allies to prepare for various scenarios arising from the brief insurrection.

“They agreed with me that we had to make sure we gave Putin no excuse—let me emphasize—we gave Putin no excuse to blame this,” Biden stated.
