Joy Reid accuses Trump of using ‘Jesus language’ to portray himself as a sacrificial figure for the GOP.
Joy Reid Slams Trump’s Evangelical-Like Rhetoric
In a fiery segment on her MSNBC show, The ReidOut, Joy Reid didn’t hold back in criticizing former President Donald Trump for his language, which she likened to that of an evangelical preacher.
“He was at the Faith and Freedom Conference over the weekend getting cheered and lauded and saying ‘I was indicted for you,’” Reid exclaimed. “Now the ‘you’ in question did not steal classified documents or foment an insurrection. He did. That is like Jesus language. As if my body is being broken for you. He speaks like that.”
Reid didn’t stop there. She pointed out that Trump’s base consists primarily of white evangelicals who eat up his rhetoric.
“And let’s be clear,” she continued. “His base are white evangelicals. They lap that up.”
Reid even shared her encounters with evangelical leaders who proudly proclaim their worship of Jesus Christ.
“When you’ve got to say it!” Reid remarked with a chuckle. “This is worship, right? And I don’t know how you break people out of something that is basically a religion.”
Political consultant Stuart Stevens, who joined Reid as a guest on The ReidOut, echoed her sentiments, describing Trump’s rhetoric as “a hallmark of autocrats.”
“It is a complete corruption of the American experiment,” Stevens warned. “And if they’re successful, it will be the end of the American experiment.”
It’s clear that Reid isn’t afraid to call out Trump and his followers for their language and its potential consequences.
