Ivanka Trump removed from NY AG Letitia James’ fraud case.
Ivanka Trump Dismissed from Fraud Lawsuit
In an exciting turn of events, Ivanka Trump has been dismissed from the $250 million fraud lawsuit filed by New York Attorney General Letitia James against former President Donald Trump, his organization, and his adult children.
A New York appeals court ruled on Tuesday that the claims against Ivanka Trump were barred by the state’s statute of limitations, leading to her dismissal from the case. This decision comes as a relief for Ivanka, who stepped away from the Trump Organization in 2017 to become her father’s senior adviser and was not accused of any misconduct during the later time period.
“The allegations against defendant Ivanka Trump do not support any claims that accrued after February 6, 2016. Thus, all claims against her should have been dismissed as untimely,” the court’s decision stated.
The civil lawsuit, brought by James in 2022, alleges fraudulent business practices conducted by the Trump Organization between 2011 and 2021. It specifically accuses Trump and his elder children — Ivanka, Donald Jr., and Eric Trump — of misleading banks, insurance companies, and other financial institutions to manipulate asset values.
The New York Appellate Division of the Supreme Court ruled that alleged wrongdoing by Ivanka Trump in 2016 was permissible. However, it remains to be seen whether other parts of the lawsuit will also be barred due to the statute of limitations, a decision that will be made by a lower court.
Despite Ivanka’s dismissal, James’s office has made it clear that they will continue to pursue the case.
“There is a mountain of evidence that shows Mr. Trump and the Trump Organization falsely and fraudulently valued multiple assets and misrepresented those values to financial institutions for significant economic gain,” said an attorney general’s office spokesperson in a statement to ABC News. “Those facts haven’t changed.”
It’s important to note that both Donald Trump and his children named in the lawsuit have vehemently denied any wrongdoing. Donald Trump has consistently referred to the case as a “witch hunt” and has even gone as far as calling Letitia James a “racist” motivated by politics.
