The epoch times

Democratic lawmaker arrested for vandalizing car with ‘Biden Sucks’ sticker, say police.

Rhode Island state Sen. Joshua Miller made headlines last week when he was caught on surveillance camera vandalizing a car with a “Biden Sucks” bumper sticker. According to authorities, Miller was daring enough to do it, and now he’s facing the consequences.

The Cranston Police Department released a statement on June 23, stating that the 69-year-old Democrat lawmaker has been charged with vandalism and malicious injury to property. Miller admitted to using his key to scratch a black Nissan that was parked next to his own truck at the Garden City Shopping Center in Cranston, Rhode Island. The car had a “Biden Sucks” bumper sticker on it.

Miller was arraigned and released on $1,000 personal recognizance. He is scheduled to appear in court for re-arraignment on July 18.

“Nobody is above the law, including those who make and enforce the laws,” said Colonel Michael Winquist, chief of the Cranston Police Department. He commended the officers for their fairness, integrity, and unbiased handling of the case.

Investigation Details

According to the police, the owner of the vandalized Nissan reported hearing a loud scratching noise, similar to someone keying a vehicle, on June 22. When he returned to his SUV, he discovered a long scratch on the side of his car. The owner confronted Miller before the police arrived, but the lawmaker denied any involvement and quickly walked away. However, the victim noticed a “Re-elect Senator Josh Miller” bumper sticker on the truck parked next to his SUV. When he searched for the name on his phone, he recognized Miller as the alleged vandal.

In body camera footage obtained by Fox News, a woman traveling with the victim suggested that Miller might have been upset about the “Biden Sucks” bumper sticker. “He apparently doesn’t like my sticker,” she said.

Initially, the police couldn’t find the suspect matching the victim’s description. After searching the shopping plaza for over an hour, they eventually encountered Miller. In the body camera video, Miller denies scratching the SUV and claims that the man accusing him is “a maniac” and “one of the gun nuts” who harassed him at the Rhode Island State House over his support for anti-gun legislation.

Miller’s actions have sparked controversy and raised questions about the behavior of elected officials. It remains to be seen how the legal proceedings will unfold for the Rhode Island state senator.
