Trump denies wrongdoing after audio recording surfaces in documents case.

Former President Donald Trump is firing back at CNN after they aired an audio recording of him discussing a potential attack on Iran. Trump insists that he behaved appropriately and did not reveal any classified information.

CNN aired the recording on Monday night, which appears to align with details from a federal indictment against Trump. The indictment describes a meeting in July 2021 where Trump, a writer, a publisher, and two staff members discussed the attack plan while conducting an interview for a memoir about Mark Meadows, Trump’s former White House Chief of Staff.

In the recording, Trump mentions that General Mark Milley, Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, formulated the Iran attack plan. This contradicts media claims that Milley was concerned about Trump starting a war with Iran.

“[Milley] said that I wanted to attack Iran, isn’t it amazing? I have a big pile of papers; this thing just came up,” Trump can be heard saying. “Look. This was him… This wasn’t done by me, this was him. All sorts of stuff, pages long, look.”

As the papers shuffle in the background, an unidentified speaker exclaims, “Oh my gosh.”

“I just found, isn’t that amazing? This totally wins my case, you know,” Trump responds. “Except it is, like, highly confidential, secret, this is secret information.”

It’s unclear from the conversation alone what document Trump was referring to. In an interview with Fox News, Trump explains that there were various papers on his desk during the conversation, but none of them contained classified or sensitive national defense information.

Trump Denies Wrongdoing

Trump dismisses the release of the audio recording as “election interference” and maintains that he did nothing wrong with classified documents.

When asked about his voice appearing on the recording, Trump confidently replies, “My voice was fine. What did I say wrong on those recordings? I didn’t even see the recording. All I know is I did nothing wrong.”

Trump also denies knowledge of any additional audio recordings related to his handling of classified documents, emphasizing that he always acts in the right way.

While defending his actions with government documents, Trump takes the opportunity to bring up classified documents allegedly found in President Joe Biden’s possession and accuses the Biden family of engaging in bribery and influence peddling.

Trump Claims Exoneration

In response to CNN airing the audio recording, Trump asserts that it actually exonerates him.

The exact date of the conversation between Trump, the writer, and the publisher in July 2021 is unclear.

On July 15, excerpts from the book “I Alone Can Fix It: Donald J Trump’s Catastrophic Final Year” began to circulate in various news outlets.
