Trans Democrat with ties to Biden announces bid for Congress to promote diversity.

Transgender-identifying Delaware state Senator Sarah McBride Announces Bid for U.S. House of Representatives

In a groundbreaking move, transgender-identifying Delaware state Senator Sarah McBride has announced her bid for the U.S. House of Representatives. McBride aims to bring much-needed diversity to the legislative body.

If elected, McBride, who was born Tim, will become the first transgender-identifying person in Congress. Her journey in politics began when she was elected to the Delaware Senate in 2020. Prior to that, she worked on a political campaign for President Joe Biden’s late son, Beau.

McBride believes that diversity in government is not only essential for a healthy democracy but also crucial for delivering real results for the people. In an interview with The News Journal, she emphasized the importance of representation.

“Diversity in government is necessary for us to not just ensure we have a healthy democracy but also to truly deliver for people.”

In a recent interview with the New York Times, McBride expressed her opposition to state laws banning sex change procedures on minors. She called these laws “wrong and unconstitutional,” stating that they are merely distractions from the lack of agenda for families and workers in our country by MAGA Republicans.

During her time in the Senate, McBride has been a vocal advocate against proposals that would prevent transgender individuals from participating in sports based on their gender identity.

“Let’s be clear, this legislation is part of a national strategy to ban trans kids from affirming health care, ban certain books, forbid discussion, and to rip trans kids away from supportive parents – policies that try to delay and delay and delay trans kids from living authentically.”

Before her election to the Delaware Senate, McBride interned for the Obama administration, served as the national press secretary for the Human Rights Campaign, and spoke at the 2016 Democrat National Convention. Her close ties to the Bidens, who call Delaware home, are evident. She worked on President Biden’s son Beau’s campaign for state attorney general, and Joe Biden himself wrote the forward to her memoir, “Tomorrow Will Be Different: Love, Loss, and the Fight for Trans Equality.”

“She was a leader. Not because she thought she was better than anyone else, but because she treated everyone as equals. She was a Biden even then.”

McBride has wasted no time in taking shots at Republicans, highlighting Florida Governor Ron DeSantis, Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-GA), and Rep. Lauren Boebert (R-CO) as politicians “who want to divide us” in her campaign’s first video ad.

In a tweet, McBride criticized “MAGA extremists” for emphasizing “culture wars” and pledged to focus on important issues such as reproductive rights, gun safety, and affordable child care.

Delaware has just one seat in Congress, which has been held by a Democrat since 2011. With four-term Rep. Lisa Rochester leaving the House to run for the U.S. Senate, McBride’s bid for the House comes at a crucial time. She has already garnered endorsements from Delaware Attorney General Kathy Jennings and prominent state Democrats.
