Seattle ‘CHOP’ zone murder convict sentenced to 14 years in prison.

Gunman Sentenced to 14 Years in Prison for Fatal Shooting in Seattle’s CHOP District

The gunman convicted of fatally shooting a man in Seattle’s CHOP district in 2020 was sentenced to 14 years in prison on Friday.

Marcel Long, then 18, shot 19-year-old Horace Lorenzo Anderson on June 20, 2020, in the city’s eight-block autonomous zone known as the Capitol Hill Organization Protest. Tragically, Anderson passed away the following day due to his injuries and the delay in receiving medical treatment within the zone. Long managed to escape the area but was apprehended a year later in Des Moines, Washington.

Initially charged with first-degree murder, Long’s charges were later changed to second-degree murder. Throughout the legal proceedings, he has been held at the King County detention facility on a $2 million bond. As a result of a plea deal, Long will be 35 years old when his sentence is completed.

In addition to the prison term, a King County Superior Court judge sentenced Long to three years in community custody. The restitution fee, which is yet to be determined, will also be imposed. Community custody centers are operated by King County’s Department of Adult and Juvenile Detention.

“What we ain’t gon do, we’re not gonna disrespect my son,” Donnita Sinclair passionately expressed in court prior to the sentencing. She bravely approached the bench where Judge Karen Donohue presided. “And judge, you’re responsible, so here I come to the motherf***ing court.”

Long was temporarily removed from the courtroom when Sinclair approached the bench, causing the gallery to erupt in screams.

Anderson was one of two teenagers who lost their lives in the area during that fateful month of June. Another tragic incident occurred in July 2020, where 16-year-old Antonio Mays Jr. was fatally shot, and a 14-year-old boy was injured. Although the suspected gunman was captured on video, no arrests have been made in connection to Mays’s death.
