Will Hurd refuses to sign RNC pledge for 2024 nominee.

Former Texas Rep. Will Hurd Takes a Stand Against Supporting the Republican Nominee

Former Texas Representative Will Hurd has made a bold statement, declaring that he will not pledge his support to whoever becomes the Republican nominee. This decision, however, may disqualify him from the debate stage, as per the rules set by the Republican National Committee.

In a recent appearance on CNN, Hurd, known for his centrist views and opposition to Trump, expressed his willingness to meet all other criteria for participating in the Republican presidential debates. However, he firmly stated that he cannot commit to supporting Trump if he becomes the eventual nominee.

Protecting the Constitution Over Political Loyalty

When asked if it was true that he would not pledge his support to the 2024 Republican nominee, Hurd confidently replied, “That’s right. I’m going to work towards meeting all the requirements, but I cannot lie just to gain access to a microphone.”

Hurd emphasized his commitment to upholding the Constitution, stating, “I’ve taken one oath, and that’s to protect the Constitution. I will not support Donald Trump. I understand the consequences this may have on my ability to access the debate stage, but I cannot compromise my principles. It would be easy to make false promises and then backtrack later, but I simply cannot do that.”

RNC Requirements and Hurd’s Position

The Republican National Committee recently outlined the requirements for candidates to secure a spot on the debate stage. These include polling at least 1% in three national polls, signing a pledge to support the eventual 2024 nominee, and obtaining a minimum of 40,000 unique donors, among other qualifications.

Unfortunately, Hurd, who is relatively new to the Republican field, has not gained significant support in recent polls. A recent Fox News poll, for example, revealed that none of the 1,005 respondents selected him as their preferred 2024 Republican nominee.
