DeSantis defends ad criticized by conservatives as anti-LGBT.
DeSantis Defends Controversial Campaign Ad
After facing criticism for a campaign ad targeting Donald Trump’s stance on LGBT issues, Ron DeSantis stands by the video, calling it “fair game.”
In an interview with Tomi Lahren on her show “Tomi Lahren is Fearless,” DeSantis addressed the backlash surrounding the ad. The interview took place on July 5 and was produced by Outkick, a conservative news organization owned by Fox Corp.
The controversial ad was posted on the DeSantis War Room Twitter page on June 30. It aimed to highlight Donald Trump’s involvement in introducing gender ideology into the mainstream, particularly through his beauty pageants where men competed against women.
DeSantis emphasized the importance of protecting the rights of girls and women athletes to participate in sports with fairness and integrity. He argued that allowing men to compete in women’s sports undermines these opportunities for female athletes.
DeSantis also expressed his belief in maintaining a society rooted in truth rather than social fads. He stated that many Americans share this desire to restore common sense.
The ad itself is a 73-second video that uses dynamic visuals and music to contrast the views of Trump and DeSantis. It features statements from Trump expressing support for LGBT citizens, juxtaposed with images of Caitlyn Jenner, who opposes men competing in women’s sports.
The video also includes footage of men in drag and a vintage news clip where Trump affirms that men can participate in the Miss Universe pageant. It concludes with headlines criticizing DeSantis and his actions regarding transgender issues.
Despite the controversy surrounding the ad, DeSantis remains steadfast in his defense, believing it is crucial to address the impact of gender ideology on society and protect the rights of women athletes.
