According to the police, two infant girls were discovered in a garbage bag inside a bathroom at the child care center. The authorities were alerted when dispatchers informed them that the babies were not breathing. Despite the efforts of first responders, the children could not be revived.
The little ones were rushed to Lurie Children’s Hospital, where they were pronounced dead. The investigation into this heart-wrenching incident is being handled by Area Three detectives, who initially classified it as endangering the life or health of children.

Disturbing Details
As the investigation unfolds, more details have emerged. A 29-year-old woman was found lying on the bathroom floor, covered in blood. She was transported to Northwestern Memorial Hospital, where she underwent emergency surgery. Staff members had become concerned when she failed to attend a scheduled class.
Janitors made the horrifying discovery of the newborns’ bodies while cleaning the bathroom after the woman was found. The infants, named Sepia and Radical Red by hospital staff, were found inside a bathroom cabinet, contained within a bag.
Official Statements
Northwestern spokesman Christopher King released a statement regarding the incident, clarifying that no daycare children were involved or impacted. The Chicago Fire and Police Departments were called to the scene, and Northwestern Medicine is cooperating fully with the ongoing investigation.
At present, no charges have been filed, and no arrests have been made. The cause of death for the newborn girls is yet to be determined.
The Bernice Lavine Early Childhood Education Center, which offers programs for children aged 6 weeks to 6 years old, remains open year-round. It serves as a benefit for full and part-time employees of Northwestern Medicine and their Campus Partners.
