Bud Light’s rankings suffer due to Dylan Mulvaney fiasco.

Bud Light Loses Spot as One of America’s Top Beers

Bud Light has suffered another blow to its reputation, dropping out of the top 10 most popular beers in the country. Anheuser-Busch, the parent company of Bud Light, has been unsuccessful in its attempts to restore the brand’s image following a major backlash over its association with transgender activist Dylan Mulvaney.

According to a recent YouGov survey reported by Fox News, Bud Light now sits at number 14, down from number nine last year. The top five most liked beers include Guinness, Heineken, Corona, Samuel Adams, and Blue Moon.

The survey, conducted from April to mid-June 2023, sampled 1,468 Americans, as reported by Newsweek. While 42% of Americans still expressed a liking for Bud Light, the same proportion as in 2022, other brands have gained popularity, pushing Bud Light out of the top 10.

Mulvaney, a 26-year-old actor and transgender activist, faced criticism for his “Days of Girlhood” series on TikTok, which many accused of mocking womanhood. Bud Light partnered with Mulvaney, even sending him a beer can with his face on it to commemorate the one-year mark of the series.

The backlash against the partnership led to calls for a boycott, resulting in a significant decline in Bud Light sales. In the four weeks ending in mid-June, sales dropped by an average of 29% compared to the same period in 2022, according to consulting firm Bump Williams. Anheuser-Busch’s stock has also plummeted over 15% since early April.

Despite the negative impact, Anheuser-Busch CEO Brendan Whitworth has not admitted that the partnership was a mistake. In a statement responding to the backlash, Whitworth emphasized the company’s commitment to ensuring every consumer feels proud of the beer they brew.

“We never intended to be part of a discussion that divides people,” Whitworth stated. “We are in the business of bringing people together over a beer.”

Whitworth, who served in the military, highlighted the importance of accountability and the values upon which America was founded. He expressed his dedication to building and protecting the company’s history and heritage, as well as his commitment to bringing great beers to consumers across the nation.
