Megan Rapinoe to retire after this season.
Soccer Star Megan Rapinoe Announces Retirement
Soccer sensation Megan Rapinoe has made a stunning announcement – she will be retiring at the end of the upcoming season. At 38 years old, Rapinoe is set to play in her fourth World Cup Tournament with the National Women’s Soccer League this summer.
“It is with a deep sense of peace and gratitude that I have decided this will be my final season playing this beautiful game,” Rapinoe shared in an Instagram post, accompanied by a heartwarming photo of herself as a young girl. “I never could have imagined the ways in which soccer would shape and change my life forever, but by the look on this little girl’s face, I think she knew all along.”
Rapinoe has been a key player for OL Reign FC, based in Seattle, Washington, since 2013. Throughout her career, she has achieved remarkable success, including winning two World Cups and an Olympic gold medal.
Notably, Rapinoe made headlines when she kneeled during an exhibition match against Thailand while wearing the USWNT uniform. Although US Soccer expressed disapproval of the act, Rapinoe was still selected as one of the 23 women on the USWNT roster. This World Cup will also feature the talented duo of Alex Morgan and Kelley O’Hara, who will be representing the national team for the fourth time.
Rapinoe’s team currently holds a record of 7-3-5 for the 2023 season, with the retiring forward having scored one goal so far. Excitement is building for this year’s World Cup, which will be hosted in Australia and New Zealand. The team’s first match is scheduled for July 21 against Vietnam.
