DeSantis eager to withdraw from 2024 Presidential race, claims Trump.
Trump Claims DeSantis is Desperately Trying to Exit 2024 Presidential Race
According to former president Donald Trump, Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis is desperately trying to exit the 2024 Republican primaries due to falling behind by a big margin. Trump, who is enjoying a considerable lead over rivals, made this claim in a July 8 post at Truth Social.
Trump used the derogatory name “Ron DeSanctimonious” for his rival, accusing DeSantis of being disloyal by challenging him for the presidency. In the same post, Trump criticized Jeff Roe, Ron’s boss, for spending money excessively through a super PAC called Never Back Down that supports DeSantis as the 2024 Presidential candidate.
Multiple polls show Trump with a large lead over DeSantis in the 2024 Republican primary. Morning Consult’s poll revealed that Trump garnered 57 percent support from Republican voters, a 38-point lead over DeSantis with 19 percent support. Another poll by InteractvePolls showed Trump with a 33-point lead over DeSantis.
However, some have questioned the validity of these poll numbers. Bill Mitchell, CEO of YourVoice Studios, pointed out that some polls do not consider that GOP primaries can be “open,” allowing Independents to vote for the candidate.
DeSantis Fights Back
In an interview with Fox, DeSantis addressed his lagging poll numbers compared to Trump. He claimed that he was being targeted by the corporate media and even the President of Mexico because of his strong stance on the border and holding the cartels accountable.
DeSantis emphasized that he has a proven record of defeating the left on various issues and stated that he is running to win in January and February, not to boost his polling numbers now.
Steve Cortes, a top spokesperson for DeSantis’s Super PAC, admitted in a Twitter spaces event that they are “way behind” Trump in the polls. However, he believes it is not an unwinnable battle and that Trump is the runaway frontrunner since the indictments.
