Chris Christie vows to retain FBI Director Christopher Wray if elected.

Chris Christie Defends FBI Director Christopher Wray

Republican 2024 presidential candidate Chris Christie passionately defended his positive opinion of FBI Director Christopher Wray during an interview on Fox News Sunday. Host Shannon Bream directly asked Christie about his thoughts on Wray, noting that many of his GOP opponents have vowed to fire the FBI director if they win the presidential nomination. The main point of contention for Christie’s opponents is the FBI’s treatment of whistleblowers.

“Well look, all those problems happened under the Jim Comey era,” Christie explained, referring to John Durham’s report. “And Christopher Wray has come in and fired every person that was in the Comey leadership team in the FBI. These whistleblowers have come out because the atmosphere has allowed it to happen now. Not during the Comey era.”

Unlike his rivals, Christie did not commit to firing Wray if elected. He criticized his opponents, stating, “The fact is that these other folks in the race, they just are looking for a scapegoat. They want to blame anybody. I will tell them who to blame. Blame Joe Biden and Merrick Garland, who have not provided the type of leadership in the country or at the Justice Department that you need.”

As the former governor of New Jersey, Christie is facing tough competition in the race for the GOP presidential nomination. His opponents include former President Donald Trump, former South Carolina Gov. Nikki Haley, former Arkansas Gov. Asa Hutchinson, former Vice President Mike Pence, Sen. Tim Scott (R-SC), Gov. Doug Burgum (R-ND), Gov. Ron DeSantis (R-FL), Miami Mayor Francis Suarez, political commentator Larry Elder, businessman Perry Johnson, and entrepreneur Vivek Ramaswamy.

Upcoming House Judiciary Committee Hearing

It is worth noting that Director Christopher Wray will be appearing at a House Judiciary Committee hearing on Wednesday.
