Biden’s Possible Exit from 2024 Presidential Race Sparks Speculation

Is it Time for Biden to Drop Out of the Race?

That’s the burning question posed by Douglas MacKinnon in his recent article on The Hill. MacKinnon, a former speechwriter for Presidents Ronald Reagan and George H.W. Bush, raises concerns about Biden’s age, gaffes, and lack of press conferences.

According to MacKinnon, even some staunch supporters of the president are feeling “nervous” and “uncomfortable” about his potential run in 2024. While the White House may dismiss such speculation, MacKinnon believes the optimal time for Biden to drop out is “immediately.”

A Historical Parallel

MacKinnon draws a striking parallel between Biden’s situation and that of former President Lyndon Johnson. In 1968, Johnson dropped out of the race just six months before Election Day, with a dismal approval rating of 38.7%. Biden’s current rating stands at 41.2%, not much higher.

MacKinnon also highlights the fear among Democrats that Vice President Kamala Harris may step in and win the nomination. Harris’s approval rating is even worse than Biden’s at 39.2%. Furthermore, Biden himself has expressed doubts about Harris’s ability to beat a Republican candidate in 2024.

Another concerning aspect of Biden’s campaign is his lackluster effort. With only 20 aides and no official headquarters, Biden’s approach, while cost-effective, may hinder his ability to define the campaign’s narrative. This stands in stark contrast to Barack Obama’s proactive strategy in 2008.

A Predicted Outcome

MacKinnon boldly predicts that Biden will not run in 2024. Instead, he believes Biden will drop out once a more appealing and younger candidate, such as California Governor Gavin Newsom, enters the race. Newsom currently enjoys a 56% approval rating among state residents.

So why is Biden running a “bargain-basement” campaign? According to MacKinnon, it’s because he’s not really running at all. The lack of enthusiasm and energy surrounding Biden’s campaign suggests that he may not be fully committed to the race.
