The Montana State Library Commission Cuts Ties with American Library Association
The Montana State Library Commission made a bold decision on Tuesday, voting to sever all connections with the American Library Association. Their reasoning? They expressed their inability to align themselves with an organization led by a self-proclaimed “Marxist.”
During a meeting last month, the commission reviewed a tweet from Emily Drabinski, the president-elect of the American Library Association. In her tweet, Drabinski proudly described herself as a “Marxist lesbian.”
Standing Firm on Constitutional Duty
The commission, bound by their oath of office and their duty to the Constitution, felt compelled to distance themselves from an organization led by a Marxist. In a letter addressed to the American Library Association, they stated, “Our oath of office and resulting duty to the Constitution forbids association with an organization led by a Marxist.”
It’s important to note that Drabinski’s tweet was posted in April 2022, prior to assuming her role as president of the association. Her term officially began this month.
The tweet in question reads, “I just cannot believe that a Marxist lesbian who believes that collective power is possible to build and can be wielded for a better world is president-elect of ALA. I am so excited for what we will do together. Solidarity. And my mom is so proud. I love you mom.”
Responding to the Montana State Library Commission’s decision, Drabinski tweeted a brief statement, saying, “That is not the Montana — or Montanans — I know.”
The Washington Examiner has reached out to the American Library Association for their comment on the matter.
