JPMorgan CEO, once confident against Trump, now concerned about ex-President.
The CEO of JPMorgan Chase & Co. Expresses Concern About Former President Trump
The CEO of JPMorgan Chase & Co., Jamie Dimon, has had a change of heart when it comes to former President Donald Trump. In a recent video interview with Zanny Minton Beddoes, the editor-in-chief of The Economist, Dimon expressed worry about the possibility of another Trump presidency in the 2024 race.
Minton Beddoes highlighted the growing isolationist wing within the Republican Party and the uncertainty surrounding Trump’s approach to American leadership. Dimon responded by stating, “I would worry about another Trump presidency too, by the way.”
Dimon also acknowledged that many policies of both U.S. political parties are “highly misguided.” However, he emphasized the importance of focusing on the efforts of smart individuals from both sides who genuinely want to make positive changes.
A Shift in Perspective
This change in Dimon’s perspective is notable considering his previous remarks about Trump. In 2018, he confidently claimed that he could beat Trump in an election, stating that he was tougher and smarter than the former president. However, Dimon later clarified that he had no intention of running for office and that his comments stemmed from frustration and a desire for unity.
Dimon also offered an interesting observation about how Trump was perceived by the American public. He suggested that despite his billionaire status, Trump was seen as an upstart who challenged the elite, rather than being part of it.
Concerns and Credit
Dimon’s concerns about Trump’s potential presidency extend beyond the U.S. economy. He believes that running for president requires experience in an elected office and that simply declaring one’s candidacy without prior practice is insufficient. Dimon emphasized the complexity of the issues faced by a president and the need for a comprehensive understanding of various matters.
Despite his worries, Dimon did credit Trump for his tax reform efforts and initiatives to reduce unemployment among black Americans. However, he clarified that acknowledging these achievements does not equate to full support.
Dimon’s evolving perspective on Trump reflects the complexity of political dynamics and the importance of considering a candidate’s experience and qualifications. As the 2024 presidential race approaches, Dimon’s concerns highlight the need for careful evaluation and consideration of all candidates.
Keep worrying.

In April, Dimon declined to answer a question about whether a second Trump term would be beneficial for the U.S. economy, stating that he did not want to provide a response.
