California Democrats are cracking down on parents sharing horror stories about LGBT education.
Protest Against Gender Ideology in California Schools
After hearing testimony from two courageous mothers about the alarming spread of gender ideology in California schools, the chair of the state Assembly Public Safety Committee was convinced that immediate action is necessary. However, instead of focusing on protecting students from concerning issues like gender “nonbinary” sleeping arrangements and explicit sexual material, the committee decided to prioritize the protection of teachers from angry parents.
“We need to do something,” declared Democratic state assemblyman Reggie Jones-Sawyer (D.), acknowledging that the moms are a real-life example of the challenges faced by teachers. In a unanimous 6-0 vote, the committee advanced the bill that the moms testified against, Senate Bill 596, which aims to criminalize harassment or credible threats against school employees outside of school premises.
S.B. 596 is just one of several bills being considered by California legislators that seek to limit parental rights under the guise of empowering LGBT minors. Other proposed legislation includes allowing children as young as 12 years old to enter state custody without parental consent and requiring judges to favor parents who affirm their child’s gender identity in custody disputes. Last year, California even passed a law that allows minors from all over the country to undergo sex-change treatments against their parents’ wishes.
The brave mothers who testified against S.B. 596, Allie Snyder and Nicole Young, spoke on behalf of numerous parents who attended the hearing to express their opposition. Snyder shared a shocking incident where a California school allowed a boy and girl to share a hotel room on an overnight field trip, despite parental objections, simply because both children identified as “nonbinary.”
Snyder also brought attention to a sexually explicit guide called This Book Is Gay, which was available at her son’s middle school. This book, which was previously criticized by a different panel of California Democrats, contains explicit content that Snyder read aloud during the hearing, causing objections from committee members.
“Would you remain calm if your children’s school failed to address such obvious endangerment, instead of criminalizing parents who are rightfully concerned about the well-being of their children?” Snyder questioned.
Nicole Young, the chair of a Sacramento-area Moms for Liberty group, revealed that an LGBT group called the Landing Spot used campus classrooms during school hours to promote drag shows where minors as young as 12 could perform for cash tips. Parents only discovered this event through a public records request.
“The number of children experiencing gender confusion is rapidly increasing due to schools constantly asking for pronouns, suggesting that they may have been born in the wrong body, and encouraging them to keep secrets from their parents,” Young expressed.
The Washington Free Beacon was unable to immediately verify the accounts provided by Snyder and Young.
State senator Anthony Portantino, the author of S.B. 596, stated that the bill is a response to the concerns of Californians who, like many Americans, are troubled by the way gender and race are taught in schools.
A representative from a teachers’ union, who testified in support of the legislation, expressed disappointment that parents are attacking teachers over what they consider to be “phantom issues” such as grooming children or promoting diversity through critical race theory.
These comments led Jones-Sawyer to condemn Snyder and Young, emphasizing the need to take action. However, he also expressed a desire for a solution that would find a middle ground politically.
