Tucker Carlson questions Pence’s backing of US aid to Ukraine.
People React as Mike Pence Expresses Support for Aid to Ukraine
During an interview at the Family Leadership Summit in Iowa, former Vice President Mike Pence faced a mixed response from the audience as he expressed his support for providing weapons and financial assistance to Ukraine in its battle against a Russian invasion.
Supporting Ukraine’s Sovereignty
“I believe that it is in the interest of the United States of America to continue to give the Ukrainian military the resources that they need to repel the Russian invasion and restore their sovereignty,” Pence stated.
However, Tucker Carlson, known for his criticism of U.S. aid to Ukraine, interrupted Pence’s response and challenged him on why the U.S. should prioritize Ukraine over its own domestic issues.
America First?
“You are distressed the Ukrainians don’t have enough American tanks. Every city in the United States has become much worse in the last three years. Where’s the concern for the United States in that?” Carlson questioned.
Pence, unfazed by the interruption, responded with a witty remark, stating that he had heard Carlson’s argument before and it was “not his concern.”
Leading the Free World
“Anybody that says that we can’t be the leader of the free world and solve our problems at home has a pretty small view of the greatest nation on earth,” Pence asserted. “We can do both.”
Pence’s support for aiding Ukraine sets him apart from other GOP presidential candidates, such as Gov. Ron DeSantis and former President Donald Trump, who have been critical of providing assistance to Ukraine.
