Alaska tsunami warning canceled.

Tsunami‌ Advisory Lifted Following 7.3 ⁢Magnitude⁢ Earthquake⁤ in ‍Alaska

The tsunami advisory that‌ was ‍issued‌ after a powerful ‌7.3 magnitude⁣ earthquake struck Alaska has been ⁤lifted, bringing relief to the‌ affected ⁢areas. ‌Anchorage’s National Weather‍ Service initially downgraded the advisory just an hour⁢ after its issuance,⁢ but eventually⁢ decided‍ to cancel it completely two hours⁢ later. This caused‌ some ‌locals to seek safety⁢ in shelters.

No Immediate Tsunami‍ Threat

“No areas⁤ are under⁤ a⁢ tsunami ⁣threat at⁢ this time,” reassured the‍ NWS‍ in⁤ a‌ tweet on Sunday.⁢ However, they ⁣did ‍mention that some areas ‌might experience minor ⁣sea level ‍changes. It is ⁢advised to⁢ consult local⁣ authorities⁣ for information⁣ on when it⁣ is⁢ safe to return⁢ to hazard ⁢zones.

The⁣ earthquake, which ⁣occurred offshore ‌on Saturday, ⁢had a‍ depth‍ of‌ 20⁣ miles ‍according to the Alaska Earthquake ‍Center. As a result, there were‍ recorded ⁤tsunami ⁢waves⁣ of up to ⁤0.5 ft. in King Cove and‌ Sand⁢ Point. ⁣It ⁣is ‍worth noting that⁢ Alaska experienced ⁣a major earthquake with ⁤a magnitude ⁢of⁣ 8.2 on⁢ June⁢ 29.

Most ⁤earthquakes in‍ Alaska⁤ go unnoticed ⁢as they typically ‌happen at greater depths ⁢and are ⁢not‍ as significant⁤ in magnitude as⁤ the recent ⁢ones. ‌However, it⁢ is ‌crucial to‍ stay‍ informed and⁤ prepared⁣ for any⁣ potential⁤ risks.

Currently, there⁤ are⁤ no⁢ other ⁤active tsunami advisories in ‌the country, as confirmed‌ by the ‌National⁢ Weather⁤ Service.
