NRCC criticizes Spanberger’s ‘radical voting record’, dismisses her as a ‘moderate’.

NRCC Slams Rep. ⁤Abigail Spanberger for‌ “Radical Voting Record” Despite‍ Claiming ‌to⁤ be a Moderate

The National Republican Congressional Committee (NRCC) is⁢ calling out ⁤Rep. Abigail Spanberger⁣ (D-VA) for⁢ her ‌alleged “radical voting record” ⁤in the House of Representatives, ⁤despite presenting⁢ herself ‍as a moderate. ⁤In an exclusive memo obtained by⁢ the Washington Examiner, the ⁤NRCC cites ⁣the D.C. crime⁢ bill⁣ and other legislation as evidence that⁢ Spanberger is more ‍extreme than she ‍portrays.

“Abigail Spanberger talks⁢ like⁢ a so-called ‘moderate’ ⁣but ⁤her voting record tells ‌a⁢ different‍ story,” ⁣the memo states. “Throughout her‌ time in Congress,⁢ Spanberger has aligned ‍herself with the ‌extreme ⁣left of her party,⁢ reflecting the⁢ hard-left shift of Virginia Democrats.”

The NRCC ⁤claims ‍that ⁤Spanberger’s⁣ leftward ⁣shift has alienated voters⁤ in ⁣her swing district, ⁣and they have targeted ‍her‍ seat ⁢for the ‍2024 cycle. The memo highlights⁣ Spanberger’s voting⁢ record ⁣in ‌the previous‍ Congress,⁢ where she ⁢voted⁣ in‍ line with President ‌Joe ⁤Biden 100% of⁤ the‍ time, according to ⁢FiveThirtyEight. ‌It⁤ also points out her votes against blocking⁢ a gas ‍stove ban, reducing energy production ⁤regulations, ⁤ensuring‍ medical care for babies born after failed abortions, and ⁤protecting parental rights in ‍education. Additionally, the ‍memo‍ highlights ⁣her vote in⁣ favor⁤ of⁣ a pathway to amnesty for ‍illegal immigrants.

As ‍a ⁢case⁢ study, ‌the memo focuses on ‌Spanberger’s vote⁤ against blocking⁤ a crime⁢ bill ‌in Washington, D.C., ⁢which ⁢aimed to soften punishments for ⁢homicide, robberies, and‌ carjackings. The⁢ House bill to⁤ block the ⁣D.C. ⁣council’s ⁢legislation passed with ⁣a⁤ 250-173 ⁣vote, with⁣ 31 Democrats joining Republicans.‌ Spanberger ⁢was⁢ among the‍ 173 Democrats ⁢who‌ voted⁢ against blocking the D.C. law. ⁢The ⁢Senate ⁤also voted ‍overwhelmingly⁣ to block the legislation on‍ a ⁤bipartisan basis, ⁢and President Biden would have signed it⁢ into‍ law.

“Notably, this ⁢stance⁢ was too ⁤extreme even‍ for ⁣President Biden, who ultimately changed ‌his ⁣position ‌and‍ signed the bill‌ into‌ law,” the memo points out. ⁣”By voting⁣ ‘no,’ Spanberger‌ demonstrated ‍her ⁢radicalism⁤ to ‌voters, showing ⁢that even within ⁤the Democratic Party, her views are ⁣extreme.”

The NRCC argues that ‌Spanberger’s ⁢support for ‌this bill will have real-life consequences for her ⁣own ⁣district,‍ especially ⁢since Washington, D.C.‍ is ⁤in ‍her backyard.⁣ They⁤ also highlight that both ⁤of Virginia’s Senators, Warner ⁤and Kaine, voted⁣ against the legislation, ⁢further emphasizing the extreme‌ nature of Spanberger’s ‍vote.

The NRCC accuses ⁢Spanberger of⁣ sacrificing her carefully crafted brand with ‌her voting ⁤record in⁢ Congress. They ⁤vow⁣ to continue pressing her ⁢on⁣ her alleged⁣ radicalism and ensure‍ that ⁣every ‌Virginia voter knows the⁢ “real” ⁢Abigail Spanberger.

Spanberger⁢ has been a prime target ⁣for Republicans since ⁢she flipped⁢ a⁣ formerly ‌GOP House ⁢seat ‌in 2018. The NRCC ‍has ⁤listed her as one of ‌37 ⁢House⁢ Democrats they aim to defeat in ⁢2024. Despite facing⁣ challenges⁢ from Republicans Nick ⁢Freitas⁣ and Yesli ⁣Vega in 2020 and ⁣2022 respectively,⁢ Spanberger‌ managed to ‍secure‌ narrow ⁤victories ⁤in both elections.
