Russia claims that two individuals were killed in a Ukrainian assault on a crucial Crimean bridge.

A Fatal⁤ Strike⁣ Hits Key Bridge Connecting Russia‍ to Crimea

A ‌fatal‌ strike on‌ Monday morning shook the key bridge connecting Russia⁢ to‌ Crimea, which Russia‍ annexed almost a decade⁤ ago. ‍The incident resulted ‌in two fatalities, a set of parents, while‍ their ⁣daughter⁤ sustained injuries.‍ They ‍were traveling ⁤in ⁤a‌ car when ⁢the strike occurred.

“There ⁢is‍ damage ‍to ‌the⁢ roadway ⁣on spans‌ of ‍the Crimean⁤ bridge,” Russia’s Ministry of ⁤Transport said on ⁤Telegram. Images showed a portion of⁣ the⁣ roadway‌ on the bridge⁢ had‌ collapsed.

According‌ to Russia’s National Anti-Terrorist⁢ Committee, the strike was‍ carried out by two⁣ Ukrainian ⁣maritime drones. CNN reported, citing a source ⁤within⁢ the Ukrainian Security Service, that it was⁣ a ‍joint ‍operation with Ukraine’s⁣ navy.

President Vladimir Putin⁣ has‌ been‍ briefed on⁢ the incident,⁣ and ⁤Deputy Prime ⁢Minister ‌Marat‍ Khusnullin⁢ will⁤ travel ⁣to Crimea ‌to‍ assess the situation.

“We ⁤know ⁢the⁣ reasons ‌and those ⁤behind ⁢this terrorist⁢ act,” Kremlin⁣ spokesman‌ Dmitry Peskov said. “This ⁣will require further ‌composure and additional measures and work from‌ all of us. No other measures have⁢ been⁤ discussed⁤ at the moment.”

Ukraine⁢ has claimed responsibility for the attack, ‍according ‍to ⁢CNN. ‌Dmitry ⁤Medvedev, the ‍deputy ‌chairman of Russia’s⁣ Security⁤ Council, called for ⁤the homes of the ‌responsible ⁢individuals,‍ whom ⁣he described as “terrorists,” to be “blown⁤ up” in⁢ response to the attack.

“Only targeted ‌and quite⁣ inhumane steps⁢ [should ⁣be⁤ taken],” Medvedev wrote ‌on his Telegram channel.

This‍ is not ⁤the first⁣ time ‍the bridge‍ has ⁢been targeted. In October⁢ of last year, it ‍was attacked due to its ⁢significance in ‌Russia’s ability to transport resources and ‌manpower to Ukraine quickly.

The attack on ‍Monday‌ occurred just hours before Russia⁤ announced its decision to ⁣stop participating in⁤ the ‌agreement brokered‌ by ⁢the⁢ United‍ Nations ‍and Turkey,⁢ which allows the export of Ukrainian grain during‍ the war. The⁤ conflict has ‌seen efforts ‌from both sides to⁤ facilitate ⁢Ukrainian‍ exports,⁢ with the threat of dire‍ consequences looming globally.
