New York University now claims that the anti-racism ‍seminar, which initially⁢ advertised ⁣itself⁤ as ⁤a “white space,”⁤ was actually⁣ “open ‌to ⁤all” and ⁣did‌ not‍ discriminate ⁢based on race.

The ⁣university⁤ informed Fox News on‌ Friday that the seminar titled ⁢”From Integration‌ to Antiracism” ‍was open to “parents ‍of all backgrounds,”⁢ even ⁤though it was⁤ primarily intended for white parents of⁣ public school⁤ children.

⁣ ⁣

However, the⁣ university⁢ acknowledged‍ that‌ “the⁤ program’s materials and⁣ content⁢ were not⁢ clear ⁢enough⁤ about it‍ being open ⁤to‍ all.”

⁣ ‌ ‍

This‌ statement was made on the‌ same day that NYU faced a⁣ federal civil⁣ rights ⁢complaint regarding the seminar.‍ Just ⁣days before‍ its first meeting, participants received an ⁣email ⁢explaining⁣ “why we are ‌meeting as white folks.” During‍ the ⁢program, which took place from⁤ February⁣ to June,⁣ facilitators‍ argued ‌that the⁤ racially exclusive ⁣workshop‌ would spare⁣ minorities ‌the ⁤”harm” of “hear[ing] our racist⁤ thoughts.”

“People⁤ of color are dealing with racism⁢ all ‌the time,” responded Barbara Gross, ⁣the associate director of NYU’s Education ‍Justice Research ⁢and⁣ Organizing Collaborative, ‍to a parent who questioned‍ the ⁢idea of ‌a‍ whites-only anti-racism training.‌ “The purpose is to‍ create a‌ space where we⁤ can talk ⁢about our racism ⁤with each⁢ other… without burdening ‌the people of ⁢color in ⁤our⁣ lives.”

⁣‍ ‌

According ⁣to ‌audio and video ⁣obtained by the⁤ Washington Free Beacon,⁣ every attendee of the ‌seminar⁢ appears⁤ to have been white. ⁤One parent even expressed ‌gratitude ⁣for the absence of people ⁤of color in⁤ the space, as‌ it allowed‍ her to speak‍ openly about racism without⁢ discomfort.

“NYU is ⁣working‌ with‌ program ⁣leadership to ‌ensure that⁢ the ‌program conforms ⁣with the ‌University’s‍ standards‍ and⁢ applicable ‌law,” stated the university on Friday.

NYU general counsel Aisha Oliver-Staley ⁣did ⁣not respond⁢ to a ⁤request for comment.
