DeSantis PAC criticizes Trump over clash with Iowa governor.
A Super PAC Attacks Former President Trump in New Ad
A super PAC supporting Gov. Ron DeSantis’s bid for the Republican nomination for president has launched a new ad that is set to air on Tuesday. This 30-second ad takes a unique approach by using artificial intelligence to recreate Trump’s voice, reading social media posts he made about Gov. Kim Reynolds earlier this month. The ad then questions why Trump is attacking his own party instead of focusing on Democrats.
Controversy Surrounding the Ad
The use of AI to fabricate President Trump’s voice has sparked controversy. Chris LaCivita, a senior advisor for Trump’s campaign, criticized the ad, calling it a desperate attempt to deceive the American public. LaCivita accused the super PAC, Always Back Down, and its top official, Jeff Roe, of resorting to AI after facing setbacks in their campaign. LaCivita also drew a parallel between their use of AI and their alleged support for outsourcing American jobs to China.
Roe, a prominent figure within the Never Back Down PAC, has been implicated in the ad’s creation.
A High-Stakes Ad
The ad, which comes with a hefty price tag, will air on Tuesday, just before Trump’s town hall with Fox News host Sean Hannity. This marks the first time that Never Back Down has directly attacked the former president in an advertisement. The Republican Accountability PAC has also released a similar ad, expected to air this week, which criticizes Trump’s treatment of Gov. Kim Reynolds.
According to the Republican Accountability PAC, Trump’s actions towards Reynolds, including cutting her out of campaign events and taking credit for her success, demonstrate his self-centered nature.
Reynolds’s Stance and Approval Rating
Gov. Kim Reynolds has not endorsed any candidate for the Iowa caucuses yet, but she has made appearances at campaign stops for various Republican hopefuls. Despite not publicly declaring her preferred candidate, Reynolds enjoys an impressive 86% approval rating among Iowa Republicans, as indicated by a March poll.
DeSantis’s Perspective
Gov. DeSantis has expressed his admiration for Reynolds, stating that he would consider her for the vice presidential position if he secures the nomination and she is interested. He describes Reynolds as a strong leader who remains focused on her responsibilities as governor.
Reynolds herself has made it clear that she is currently dedicated to her role as governor and is not actively seeking to join DeSantis or any other candidate’s ticket to the White House.
