Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis to Unveil Defense Policies in Campaign Speech
Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis will reveal his policies and priorities for the nation’s armed forces during a midmorning campaign speech in Colombia, South Carolina. This highly anticipated event will showcase DeSantis’ vision for the future as commander-in-chief.
Meanwhile, the Senate will begin deliberations on the proposed $886.3 billion Fiscal Year 2024 defense budget. The Senate version, known as the National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA), is expected to differ from the House-passed bill, which included controversial ”culture war“ amendments.
These amendments cover a range of issues, such as the Department of Defense’s abortion travel policy, gender transition procedures in DOD healthcare programs, and diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) programs. However, it is unlikely that these measures will survive the conferencing process between the chambers.
Regardless of the outcome in Congress, DeSantis has made it clear that he will take immediate action to reverse any “woke” policies imposed on the Pentagon by the Biden administration. He plans to issue executive orders to restore focus on mission accomplishment and boost morale and recruitment.
A Military Veteran with a Strong Message
As a former Navy Judge Advocate General’s Corps (JAG) officer and Iraq War veteran, DeSantis understands the importance of a mission-focused military. He believes that the current administration’s emphasis on social experimentation and ideology is detracting from the core purpose of the armed forces.
In a recent campaign speech, DeSantis expressed concern over the declining interest in military service among younger generations. He highlighted the shift in priorities within the military, which now includes issues like pronouns, drag queens, and woke agendas.
DeSantis plans to address these concerns and outline his defense platform in July. He has promised a substantial component of his presidential plank dedicated to restoring the military’s mission-oriented focus.
