Pence highlights US strength, US-Israel alliance ahead of Herzog visit.
Former Vice President Mike Pence delivered a powerful speech to a pro-Israel group, reaffirming his unwavering support for the U.S. alliance with Israel. Speaking at the Christians United for Israel (CUFI) Summit in Arlington, Virginia, on July 17, Pence expressed his commitment to defending America’s most cherished ally.
Pence’s address captivated the enthusiastic attendees, who were eager to hear his perspective on reasserting American leadership in the world. CUFI, an advocacy group dedicated to combating anti-Semitism and promoting U.S. support for Israel, provided the perfect platform for Pence to share his vision.
Twin Motivations
Rev. John Hagee, the founder of CUFI, honored Pence with the Defender of Israel award, recognizing his steadfast service to Israel and the Jewish people. Pence’s advocacy for Israel is driven by two powerful motivations: his Christian faith and his political ideology.
Pence’s love for Israel stems from his upbringing in the Heartland, where he witnessed the deep-rooted support for Israel among conservative Christians. Many view the modern state of Israel as a fulfillment of biblical prophecy, believing it enjoys divine protection. As Pence eloquently stated, ”We stand with Israel because we believe in right over wrong and good over evil. And we stand with Israel because Israel’s very existence is proof that the promises of God are true.”
Practical political considerations also shape Pence’s stance on Israel. He highlighted the success of the Abraham Accords, brokered by former President Donald Trump, which established diplomatic relations between Israel, the United Arab Emirates, and Bahrain. Pence emphasized that unequivocal support for Israel actually enhances the prospects for peace.
Furthermore, Pence criticized the current administration’s handling of international affairs, citing the disastrous withdrawal from Afghanistan and the perceived weakness that has emboldened adversaries. He stressed the importance of American strength in maintaining peace and restoring the nation’s standing in the world.
Throughout his speech, Pence proudly recounted the achievements of the Trump-Pence administration, including the passage of the Taylor Force Act, the relocation of the U.S. Embassy to Jerusalem, the recognition of Israel’s sovereignty over the Golan Heights, and the withdrawal from international organizations that displayed bias against Israel.
