Last chance: Maryland SNAP recipients to receive $1,691 direct payment in 5 days.
Maryland to Send Final Payment to SNAP Recipients
In just five days, Maryland will be sending its final payment worth up to $1,691 to Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) recipients for the month of July. This is exciting news for the approximately 772,700 people in Maryland who rely on SNAP benefits, also known as food stamps.
The distribution of food stamps in Maryland takes place from the fourth to the 23rd of every month, following the state’s benefits schedule. It’s important to note that SNAP benefits can be used not only for purchasing food but also for buying plants and seeds to grow food for households to eat.
Each household member receives an average payment of $180 per month, with the maximum amount being $740 for a household of three and $1,691 for a household of eight. For each additional member beyond eight, an extra $211 is added to the benefit amount.
Recipients receive their benefits through an electronic benefit transfer card called the Independence Card. This card allows them to purchase eligible items at stores, excluding nonfood items, alcohol, medicines, tobacco, and ready-to-eat hot foods.
The availability of food stamps on the Independence Card depends on the first three letters of the recipient’s last name, falling between the fourth and the 23rd of the month.
Income Eligibility and Usage Restrictions
To be eligible for SNAP benefits in Maryland, the maximum annual income varies based on household size. For a household of one, the maximum annual income is $18,954, while for a household of five, it is $45,682.
It’s important to remember that SNAP benefits can only be used for groceries and cannot be used for owed food bills or items that cannot be consumed.
With the final payment for July just around the corner, SNAP recipients in Maryland can look forward to continued support in meeting their nutritional needs.
