An Arrest Made in Connection with Suspected Overdose Death of Robert De Niro’s Grandson
An arrest was made last week in connection with the suspected overdose death of actor Robert De Niro’s grandson, Leandro De Niro Rodriguez, according to a Monday report.
Sofia Marks, 20, was taken into custody Thursday on federal charges related to narcotics. She is alleged to have sold the drugs involved in the death of the 19-year-old De Niro Rodriguez earlier this month.

Marks appeared in a Manhattan court Friday and will remain in custody until she requests bail, and prosecutors have stated they intend to contest any request for her release, the report noted.
She was arrested on at least three counts of narcotics distribution related to drugs sold to De Niro Rodriguez, according to a law enforcement official cited in the report.
At least one of the fake oxycodone pills believed to be laced with fentanyl that Marks allegedly sold was “taken by a teenager who subsequently died of a suspected overdose,” U.S. Attorney Damian Williams said.
It is widely believed that De Niro Rodriguez is the victim Williams was referring to.
Drena De Niro, his mother, feels he died due to “fentanyl-laced pills,” she said.
Marks’s arrest “was critical because, as we allege, Marks knew the pills could kill, and she continued selling them anyway,” Williams said.
It has not been confirmed if Marks has retained an attorney, but she plans to, according to Assistant Federal Defender Amy Gallicchio.

“We’re greatly appreciative of the condolences from everyone. We ask that we please be given privacy to grieve our loss of Leo.”
