On the newest episode of the “Drill Down podcast,” Seamus Bruner, Director of Research at the Government Accountability Institute, stated that FBI Director Christopher Wray’s deflective Congressional testimony last week heavily supports his own research into the Bureau.
The Government Accountability Institute (GAI) is a “nonpartisan team of researchers, writers, editors, fact-checkers, and subject matter experts who work to uncover those politicians who abuse public service to feather their own nests and enrich their own families and associates,” according to the think tank’s website.
On the podcast episode, the two GAI investigators discussed how the FBI has had a difficult few weeks.
“The past four FBI directors have all been involved in some kind of political scandal, weaponizing the Bureau against political opponents,” Bruner told host Eric Eggers.
Bruner and Eggers pointed out how surfacing information from two committee probes have shown numerous occasions in which FBI officials intentionally hampered investigations and alerted Hunter Biden’s attorneys to a strategically planned search of his storage facility.
Last week, Rep. Jim Jordan (R-OH) questioned current FBI Director Christopher Wray about the agency’s efforts in approving surveillance of parents who spoke out against policy decisions at local school board meetings, as well as a local field office’s surveillance of Latin-Mass Catholics as potential “domestic terrorists.”
There are also new reports related to how the FBI collaborated with Ukraine’s government to suppress American citizens on social media.
The subcommittee on the “weaponization” of the federal government of the House Judiciary Committee stated last week that the FBI aided censorship requests from Ukraine’s own intelligence service (SBU), passing them along to platforms like Facebook, Instagram, and YouTube.
“In doing so, the FBI violated Americans’ First Amendment rights and potentially undermined our national security,” the committee’s report stated.
Bruner, who wrote “Compromised: How Money and Politics Drive FBI Corruption,” examined the committee reports and said, “Getting to the bottom of all this, we see that it goes all the way to the top.”
“Eighty percent of GOP voters believe that the 2024 election is also going to have nefarious involvement by the FBI,” he added. “That’s a big problem. When Americans can’t trust both their elections and their law enforcement, they don’t have a whole lot of options.”
