DeSantis stands by Trump amidst new indictment, promises action.
Republican Candidate Ron DeSantis Vows to Clean House at FBI and DOJ
Republican presidential candidate Ron DeSantis has made a bold promise during an engaging interview. He stated that if elected as President of the United States, he will take decisive action to address the concerns surrounding the FBI and Department of Justice.
DeSantis expressed his views during a recent conversation with CNN host Jake Tapper. The discussion revolved around a letter received by former President Donald Trump, informing him of an investigation into his alleged attempts to overturn the 2020 presidential election results.
Tapper questioned DeSantis about the accountability of Trump if evidence of criminality is presented. In response, DeSantis highlighted a deeper issue plaguing the nation. He argued against the criminalization of political differences, citing the case against Trump in Manhattan as an example of stretching the statute to target him specifically.
DeSantis further emphasized the weaponization of the Department of Justice and FBI against individuals they dislike, particularly referencing the Russia collusion investigation against Trump. He firmly stated that as President, his primary goal would be to restore a single standard of justice and put an end to the weaponization of these agencies.
“On day one, we will have a new FBI director and significant changes at the Department of Justice,” DeSantis declared. He stressed the importance of instilling confidence in Americans from all political backgrounds, ensuring that justice is based on the rule of law rather than political affiliations.
While expressing his hope that Trump does not face charges, DeSantis also urged people to focus on moving forward.
