Gilgo Beach Serial Killer Suspect’s Family “Shocked, Embarrassed, and Disgusted” by Arrest
Family Reacts to Arrest of Suspected Gilgo Beach Serial Killer
Family members of the man suspected of being the Gilgo Beach serial killer have reacted to his arrest, police revealed on Tuesday.
The 59-year-old suspect, whom The Daily Wire is not naming in keeping with a company policy that seeks to deprive mass killers of the notoriety they often crave, was arrested last week and charged with the murders of three women who disappeared between 2007 and 2010. During an interview with CBS New York, Suffolk County Police Commissioner Rodney Harrison said the family was taken by surprise.
“They were shocked, embarrassed, and disgusted,” Harrison said. “I don’t believe they knew about this double life [the suspect] was living.”
The suspect has a wife and children, who were determined to be out of town during the times that Megan Waterman, 22, Melissa Barthelemy, 24, and Amber Costello, 27, went missing. Their bodies were found in the marsh at Gilgo Beach on Long Island, New York, in 2010.
The man in custody is also suspected of killing Maureen Brainard-Barnes, 25, whose body was found under similar circumstances on the same day as Costello and Waterman.
All four women worked as sex workers, and another seven bodies were found in the area, though authorities aren’t currently connecting the suspect with those murders.
Authorities are also expanding their search for evidence that the suspect committed murders in Las Vegas as well as South Carolina.
“We are aware of [the suspect’s] connection to Las Vegas,” the Las Vegas Metro Police Department said in a statement on Tuesday, according to ABC News. “We are currently reviewing our unsolved cases to see if he has any involvement.”

The suspect also owns property in Chester, South Carolina, so authorities are looking into whether he is responsible for unsolved murders there as well.
At a press briefing on Monday, New York State Police Major Stephen Udice said that a cold case detective assigned to the Gilgo Beach murders identified the man as a suspect within a month of taking the case.
“This was the first time that [the suspect’s] name had come up and the first time that he had been identified as a potential suspect,” Udice said, according to the New York Post. “At that time, the task force worked as a team to move forward with that information, and the investigation ultimately confirmed that [the suspect] was in fact the individual responsible for at minimum the deaths of three women.”
The search for the killer began anew in January 2022, when New York Police Department Chief Rodney Harrison became the Suffolk County police commissioner. A task force was launched, and a senior investigator was told to focus only on solving the murders.
The task force identified the suspect.
The suspect is the owner and founder of RH Consultants and Associates, an architecture firm in Midtown Manhattan. Its website boasts that American Airlines and the NYC-DEP Sewerage Treatment as clients. Last year, he gave an interview to the YouTube channel Bonjour Reality, saying that he was “born and raised on Long Island,” but has “been working in Manhattan since 1987.”
