Chinese and Russian Militaries Link Up as Ties Between the Nations ‘Reach a ⁢New Level’

China announced⁤ on Wednesday that‌ it has ⁣dispatched navy ships⁢ in ⁤preparation for joint ⁣exercises‌ with Russia’s sea forces,‍ signaling Beijing’s ‍unwavering‍ support for Moscow’s ‌invasion ⁤of neighboring ‍Ukraine.

Despite‍ the escalating ‌economic and humanitarian ⁣consequences of the brutal ‌16-month-long air, sea, and ground assault, China maintains its‍ neutrality in the conflict.‍ However, it has openly ‌accused the U.S. ⁣and its⁤ allies‌ of ‍provoking⁤ Russia ⁣and has continued to maintain strong economic, diplomatic, and trade ties with Moscow.

The joint exercise, which involves more than 10 ships and over 30 aircraft,⁢ is ⁤set⁣ to ⁣take ‌place⁤ in parts of the⁤ Sea of ⁣Japan in ⁣the coming days, according ⁢to China’s Xinhua News⁣ Agency.

China ‌has consistently supported⁣ Russia⁢ in ‍opposing U.S. condemnation of the ⁤Ukraine ⁤invasion in international forums. However, it has made it clear that it will not provide arms to ⁣either side ‌in the‍ war.

The Defense Ministry announced ⁢on Wednesday that ‌Chinese ships⁤ had linked up with ⁤their Russian ‌counterparts. The participating Chinese ⁢ships ⁢include the guided ‌missile destroyers Qiqihar ⁣and Guiyang, the guided missile ⁤frigates Zaozhuang and⁢ Rizhao, and the supply⁢ ship Taihu.‍ The Chinese ships are also‍ equipped with ⁤four helicopters.

Russian participants in the joint⁤ drills include ⁣the ‍frigates⁢ Gromkiy and Otlichnyy, which have been ‌hosting visitors‍ in Shanghai, China’s⁢ largest⁤ city and biggest port, for a week.

The drills will focus on⁣ ship-to-ship‌ communications,‍ maneuvering ‍in formation, and maritime⁢ search and rescue, as⁢ reported by Chinese ⁣sources.

This military collaboration follows a meeting‌ in Beijing between⁢ China’s defense‍ minister and ⁤the ‌head of Russia’s navy, ‌marking the first formal military ⁤talks⁣ between the ⁤two friendly nations since the⁣ short-lived⁤ mutiny by⁢ the Russian mercenary group Wagner.

China has reassured Russia of its⁤ unwavering ‍support⁣ since the uprising. Minister of‍ National⁣ Defense⁢ Li Shangfu expressed China’s‍ hope ⁤for increased exchanges, joint exercises, and other forms⁤ of cooperation to elevate defense ties⁤ to⁣ a‍ new level, according to the ‍Chinese Defense Ministry.

China boasts the world’s ⁤largest ‌navy in‍ terms of the number of ‍hulls and‍ significantly surpasses Russia in both ⁣size and⁢ technical capabilities of‍ its navy.

Both ‌countries have conducted a⁣ series ⁢of⁣ joint exercises ‌and ⁣maneuvers‍ since Russia’s invasion of Ukraine last year, including collaborations between⁣ their air forces.

The Western Journal⁢ has reviewed this ⁣Associated⁢ Press story and may have altered ⁤it‌ prior to publication⁣ to ensure that it meets ⁤our⁢ editorial standards.
