JD Vance’s bill seeks to prohibit transgender treatments for children, deeming them “gruesome” and irreversible.
Senator J. D. Vance Introduces Bill to Protect Children from Transgender Procedures
Senator J. D. Vance (R-Ohio) has introduced a bill that aims to put an end to transgender procedures on minors, emphasizing the importance of saving children from a lifetime of suffering. The bill, known as the “Protect Children’s Innocence Act,” seeks to categorize ”gender-affirming care“ on minors as a Class C felony, effectively banning genital mutilation, castration, and sterilization of children.
This legislation not only prohibits taxpayer funding for such procedures but also extends to government-sponsored healthcare plans in the Affordable Care Act. Additionally, the bill aims to ban higher education institutions from offering instruction on “gender-affirming care.”
Furthermore, the bill states that aliens who have performed these medical procedures on children will be denied visas and entry into the United States.
“Under no circumstances should doctors be allowed to perform these gruesome, irreversible operations on underage children,” said Senator Vance.
“With this legislation, we have an opportunity to save countless young Americans from a lifetime of suffering and regret. I want to thank Congresswoman Marjorie Taylor Greene for leading on this issue, and I look forward to working with my Senate colleagues to protect children from these life-altering procedures,” he stated.
The bill specifically prohibits surgeries that feminize or masculinize the facial features of minors, as well as procedures such as chest implants and gluteal implants that aim to change the child’s body in a way that differs from their biological sex.
The bill lists 16 procedures under ”gender-affirming care,” including castration, vasectomy, vaginoplasty, phalloplasty, hysterectomy, and mastectomy. Violators of the bill could face fines and imprisonment of up to 12 years.
The Protect Children’s Innocence Act is a companion legislation to H.R. 1399, originally introduced by Representative Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-Ga.), which sought to modify the United States Code to prohibit gender-affirming care on minors.
The release accompanying the bill highlights the irreversible mental and physical damage caused by “gender-affirming care” on minors. It also mentions that peer nations in Europe have significantly restricted access to these procedures.
Transgender Procedures Harming Minors
Vance’s Protect Children’s Innocence Act is part of a growing movement to prohibit subjecting minors to transgender surgeries.
In early June, the Republican-controlled state legislature of Louisiana passed HB 648, which aimed to ban certain transgender procedures on individuals below the age of 18. Despite the state’s Democrat governor, John Bel Edwards, vetoing the bill, lawmakers overturned the veto, setting the ban to come into effect on Jan. 1, 2024.
Attorney General Jeff Landry, a Republican, praised this development, stating that Louisiana now joins its neighboring states in protecting children. He emphasized the importance of strengthening the family unit and safeguarding children from harmful gender reassignment surgeries.
In Tennessee, a federal appeals court recently allowed a state ban on “gender-affirming care” for minors to come into effect, overturning a previous block by a lower court.
The movement to ban transgender procedures on children is gaining momentum as experts warn about the dangers associated with these procedures.
