VIDEO: Homeless Man Assaults Santa Monica Councilman Over Littering Request

An Unsettling⁢ Incident:⁣ Homeless Man Attacks Santa Monica⁤ City Councilman

⁤

The tranquility‍ of a bustling‍ local shopping‌ area‌ in Santa Monica was shattered on Sunday when an⁤ apparently homeless man launched a violent ‌attack on city councilman ⁢Phil Brock. The⁢ shocking‍ incident, captured on ⁤video,⁢ unfolded as Brock approached the man, who was tearing down ⁣signs‍ on a⁤ store. Brock’s intention was simply to request‌ that‌ the man dispose of the refuse ‍properly. However, the encounter quickly ⁣escalated as the assailant ⁢shoved⁢ Brock, hurled obscenities,⁢ snatched ‌his hat, and‍ doused ⁣both Brock⁣ and his girlfriend⁤ with an ⁢unidentified liquid.

The attacker,‍ identified as Sawyer ⁢Walden Allee,‍ now⁤ faces charges ‌of battery and grand theft.⁣ Remarkably, this marks his third felony arrest⁢ in less⁢ than ⁣three weeks. Allee⁢ had‌ been released from Los⁣ Angeles County jail on two previous ⁣occasions, despite facing⁤ felony ⁢charges.⁤ The incident has left Brock ⁤and his‍ girlfriend⁣ shaken, ⁢with ⁣Brock ‌recounting‌ the harrowing‍ experience to KTLA:‍ “I turned to ⁢walk‍ away.‍ He took‌ a‌ bottle of some sort ⁤of liquid and threw it ⁣on me. ⁤Made⁣ a second throw ⁢and doused ⁤Kathryn [Brock’s girlfriend] ⁢as well. ‌We ⁤called 911.”

Brock, who ‍passionately‍ advocates for⁣ increased police ⁢presence ‌and the enforcement ⁢of ⁣misdemeanors, acknowledges that Santa Monica, like⁢ many other cities across⁢ California,⁣ is grappling with⁢ a ⁢homelessness problem that ⁣plagues its streets.⁣ Unfortunately,⁤ the state’s rising crime rates are further exacerbating‌ the situation. Democratic state leaders have been ⁤pushing for⁣ sentencing leniency⁢ and prison releases, contributing‍ to the alarming surge in ⁤criminal activities.

“L.A. is finished,” declared rapper Curtis‌ “50‍ Cent” Jackson‌ earlier this month, expressing his dismay‍ after‍ Los Angeles County⁢ reinstated⁤ a ‌zero-bail policy⁢ for nonviolent felony charges. Santa Monica, located ⁤within the county, ‍has⁢ witnessed ‍an alarming 11 percent increase in its crime rate in 2022.

Meanwhile,⁢ San ‍Francisco has been grappling with its‍ own ‍set of challenges. Homicides in the ‌city have ⁢surged ⁢by nearly ⁤40 percent from 2020 to‌ 2022, and deaths⁣ from⁣ fentanyl‌ have spiked. The‌ city⁢ experienced a staggering⁣ population decrease of over 50,000 ‌residents‍ last year, the highest ⁤among major U.S.⁤ cities.
