Top Oversight Democrat criticizes FBI document release on Biden investigation, alleging bribery scheme.

House Oversight Committee ⁣Ranking Member Criticizes‌ Release of ‍Unverified FBI Document

House Oversight‌ Committee Ranking Member Jamie Raskin (D-MD) has⁣ strongly ⁢criticized‌ Sen. Chuck Grassley’s (R-IA) ‍decision to release an unverified FBI-generated FD-1023. The‍ document contains allegations made by a Ukrainian energy executive ⁤to an FBI informant, claiming involvement⁤ in a $5 ⁣million bribery scheme‌ with both Hunter⁤ Biden ⁣and then ⁤Vice President Joe Biden.

A Desperate Attempt to Revive Debunked Conspiracy Theories

Raskin⁣ has labeled the‍ decision to‍ release ‌the document as a “desperate attempt ⁢by Committee ⁤Republicans to revive the aging and debunked ‌Giuliani-framed conspiracy ⁣theories.” He further argues that the release goes against ⁢the⁢ FBI’s wishes to ⁤keep it confidential,‌ in order to protect the safety of the informant ⁢and the confidential human source.

Six Key Takeaways from the IRS Whistleblower Hearing on Hunter Biden ‍Investigation

Raskin states,⁣ “Releasing this document ⁣in isolation from explanatory context is another ‍transparently desperate attempt by‌ Committee Republicans to ⁣revive the aging and‍ debunked‍ Giuliani-framed⁢ conspiracy theories and to distract⁤ from their ⁣continuing failure to ⁤produce any actual evidence‌ of wrongdoing by the President.”

The document contains allegations from a ‍confidential human source to⁣ an FBI⁤ informant, ‍asserting that⁤ both Bidens received $5 million from the head of Ukrainian energy company Burisma. The purpose of the alleged payment was ‍to pressure ⁢the Ukrainian government into firing a ⁢prosecutor⁤ who was investigating Burisma.

The document also claims the existence of ⁣recordings ‌related to the alleged bribery‍ acts.

According to the document, Mykola Zlochevsky,‌ the head of Burisma, made a statement to an FBI informant in 2016, saying, “it costs (million) ‍to‍ pay one Biden, and 5 (million) to another⁤ Biden.” Zlochevsky further⁤ expressed the need to keep Hunter Biden on the board, despite considering‍ him “stupid,” ⁣in order to‌ maintain stability.

Raskin asserts ⁢that these allegations are the same ⁤ones Rudy Giuliani attempted to uncover leading up to the 2020 ‌Presidential Election.

“Mr. Zlochevsky was at the center of a ⁣pressure campaign by Rudy Giuliani in 2019 and 2020 on behalf of then-President Trump, ⁣during⁢ which Mr. Zlochevsky was interviewed and ‍directly ‌denied ‍these allegations,” Raskin said.

The Maryland Democrat⁣ refers ⁢to a transcript⁢ provided to Congress ‌by Lev Parnas, a former ⁢associate of Giuliani. In the transcript, Zlochevsky denies ⁣any wrongdoing on behalf‍ of‍ the ⁣Bidens and ⁣Burisma, stating that no one from Burisma had ‌any contact with VP Biden or his associates during Hunter Biden’s engagement.
