Russia continues to attack Odesa, a Ukrainian port city.
Russian Forces Continue Assault on Odesa, Devastating Ukrainian Grain Exports
Russian forces have intensified their assault on Odesa, a vital port city in southern Ukraine, causing significant damage to the region’s grain warehouses. This sustained attack, now in its fourth consecutive night, has resulted in the destruction of tons of crops.
“The terrorist country continues to attack Odessa region,” said Oleh Kiper, head of Odessa regional military administration. “The target is an important infrastructure facility. The Russians fired 7 missiles on it. Unfortunately, there is damage.”
Kiper further revealed that the strikes had obliterated 100 tons of peas and 20 tons of barley, while also causing injuries to two individuals. This assault comes after Moscow reneged on an agreement that allowed the export of Ukrainian grain.
Russian leaders have now declared that vessels in the Black Sea are aiding Ukraine, a country that was once a major global grain exporter. In a separate incident, the Russian ministry announced that one of its naval ships had successfully destroyed a target vessel with a cruise missile during a drill.
The United Nations and Turkey had brokered the Black Sea agreement last July to address a global food shortage caused by Russia’s refusal to allow Ukrainian exports. However, Kremlin officials withdrew from the deal, claiming insufficient benefits in return.
The U.N. Security Council is convening today to discuss the repercussions of Russia’s withdrawal from the agreement. Over the past year, more than 32 metric tons of grain have been shipped out of the port.
In a concerning development, the Biden administration has warned of a potential false flag operation by Russia in the Black Sea. This operation would involve Russia committing an incident in the port and then blaming Ukraine for it.
“Information indicates that Russia has laid additional sea mines in the oceans near Ukrainian ports,” revealed National Security Council coordinator John Kirby. He added that this appears to be a coordinated effort to justify attacks on civilian ships in the Black Sea and falsely attribute them to Ukraine.
In response, the administration has declassified and downgraded intelligence related to this possible false flag operation, hoping to dissuade Russia from carrying out such an act.
