Border Patrol sees rise in illegal aliens on terror watch list.
Border Patrol Reports Spike in Illegal Aliens on Terror Watch List
The United States Customs and Border Protection has released data revealing a concerning trend at the southern border. In fiscal year 2023, Border Patrol encountered 143 illegal aliens on the terror watch list, marking a significant increase from the 98 encounters in fiscal year 2022.
This surge in encounters is part of a larger pattern. In fiscal year 2021, Border Patrol reported only six encounters with individuals on the terror watchlist. The numbers were even lower in fiscal years 2019 and 2020, with only three encounters in total.
Security Concerns Escalate
Highlighting the potential risks, one illegal alien on the terror watch list was recently released into the interior of the U.S. It took authorities two weeks to locate and apprehend this individual, who the Tampa Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) Office identified as a possible national security threat.
Furthermore, a recent report from Border Patrol has revealed a staggering 1,000% increase in illegal immigration from various foreign countries, including China, Afghanistan, Algeria, Vietnam, Ethiopia, and others.
Immigration Crisis and Public Opinion
These alarming statistics come amidst a broader surge in illegal immigration under the Biden administration. Since President Biden took office in 2021, an estimated 1.5 million gotaways have been reported, far surpassing the 415,000 estimated gotaways during the Trump administration from 2018 to 2020.
American citizens living on the Texas-Mexico border have shared their concerns, with reports of illegal immigrants crossing their properties at alarming rates. Some have even experienced incidents where immigrants surrounded their homes or attempted to lure young girls out late at night.
The financial burden of illegal immigration is also a significant concern. Estimates suggest that it costs American taxpayers approximately $151 billion annually, placing significant strain on the healthcare system, particularly in Texas, Florida, and Arizona.
Public Opinion and Government Response
A recent CBS News poll conducted in late May revealed that 63% of Americans disapprove of President Biden’s handling of the border, while only 37% approve.
As major cities struggle to respond to the immigration crisis, initiatives such as Chicago’s $51 million housing program for foreign nationals and New York City’s use of places of worship for housing have been implemented.
