McCarthy to host bipartisan ‘Sound of Freedom’ screening at Capitol.
House Speaker Kevin McCarthy (R-Calif.) is set to host an exciting event on Capitol Hill for members of Congress. It’s a screening of the film “Sound of Freedom,” which tells the gripping story of a human trafficking rescue operation. This event, scheduled for July 25, will be attended by the movie’s star, Jim Caviezel, and Tim Ballard, the man who inspired the film and founded Operation Underground Railroad.
The invitation for the event, which has been circulating on Twitter, reveals that there will be a reception with the cast and crew before the screening. Additionally, there will be a conversation between Speaker McCarthy, Jim Caviezel, and Tim Ballard.
This screening marks the second bipartisan movie night hosted by Speaker McCarthy since he took office in January. The first movie shown was “Lincoln.”
“Sound of Freedom” is a film released by Angel Studios, the same company behind the popular crowdfunded TV series “The Chosen.” Since its release on July 4, the movie has been a huge success, surprising critics by earning over $14.2 million in its opening weekend. It even surpassed the latest Indiana Jones film at the domestic box office. Despite facing obstacles that delayed its release for five years, ”Sound of Freedom” has grossed over $101 million with its modest $14 million budget.
The film follows Jim Caviezel’s character, based on Tim Ballard, on a mission to rescue a kidnapped girl from child traffickers in the Colombian jungle. Although the story is fictional, it is inspired by Ballard’s real-life efforts to combat human trafficking.
After completing negotiations with Disney, the film’s producer, Eduardo Verastegui, faced challenges finding a distributor. However, through the help of Angel Studios and their unique crowdfunding model, the film was able to secure its Independence Day release. Verastegui expressed his belief that this film will raise awareness and bring freedom to those children who are trapped in trafficking.
Unlikely Success
“Sound of Freedom” has defied expectations and achieved remarkable success. Despite its limited budget and the hurdles it faced, the film has become the second highest-grossing movie in the country, earning over $101 million. Its powerful message and captivating story have resonated with audiences.
This event hosted by Speaker McCarthy provides an opportunity for members of Congress to come together and engage on a personal level. By watching “Sound of Freedom,” they can gain a deeper understanding of the bipartisan issue of ending child trafficking and build stronger relationships within Congress.
