House GOP campaign arm capitalizes on Jason Aldean controversy for fundraising.
EXCLUSIVE: NRCC Supports Jason Aldean’s Controversial Song with Limited-Edition T-Shirts
The National Republican Congressional Committee (NRCC) is making a bold statement by selling “Small Town Proud” T-shirts in support of country star Jason Aldean’s latest song and music video, “Try That In A Small Town.” The song has recently sparked controversy due to its lyrics and imagery, leading Country Music Television (CMT) to pull it from their network.
“The radical Left wants America’s cities to look more like crime-ridden war zones and less like white picket fences and American flags. They’ll continue to go out of their way to terrorize anyone who dares question their dangerous beliefs if we don’t push back,” said Will Reinert, the NRCC’s national press secretary.
The NRCC is not shying away from the controversy. In fact, they are encouraging supporters to stand up against Aldean’s critics through a Facebook ad promoting the T-shirts. “If you’re tired of the Left trying to cancel small-town America, get your shirt today!” the ad reads.
The song, released in May, gained significant attention after the music video was uploaded online last week. Critics argue that the lyrics promote violence, with lines like “Cuss out a cop, spit in his face/Stomp on the flag and light it up/Yeah, ya think you’re tough/Well, try that in a small town/See how far ya make it down the road.”
Aldean defended himself against the criticisms, stating, “There is not a single lyric in the song that references race or points to it — and there isn’t a single video clip that isn’t real news footage — and while I can try and respect others to have their own interpretation of a song with music- this one goes too far.”
According to Aldean, the song represents the sense of community he experienced while growing up. ”Try That In A Small Town, for me, refers to the feeling of a community that I had growing up, where we took care of our neighbors, regardless of differences of background or belief. Because they were our neighbors, and that was above any differences,” he explained.
Republican Support for Aldean
Republicans, including former President Donald Trump, have rallied behind Aldean amidst the controversy. Trump took to social media to express his support, stating, “Jason Aldean is a fantastic guy who just came out with a great new song. Support Jason all the way. MAGA!!!”
The NRCC is also standing by Aldean, targeting at least 37 House Democrats in next year’s elections to expand their slim four-seat majority in the House.
It’s clear that Aldean’s song has ignited a passionate debate, with both sides firmly expressing their views. As the controversy continues, the NRCC’s limited-edition T-shirts serve as a symbol of support for those who believe in the message behind “Try That In A Small Town.”
