‘Bluey’ Creator Exposes Censored Jesus Reference in Popular Kids’ Show

An Innocent Reference to Jesus Removed ‌from Hit ‌Children’s Show

In a recent interview with The Hollywood ⁣Reporter, “Bluey” creator Joe Brumm shared an interesting revelation about the popular children’s show. Brumm had planned ⁢to include a mention of Jesus⁤ in one of the episodes, but major networks pushed back against the idea.

“It ‍wasn’t proselytizing, it wasn’t insulting,” Brumm explained. However, the reference was quickly shot down.

“Bluey” centers ⁢around an animated dog and her ‌family, and it has gained ⁤immense popularity, ranking‍ among the most-watched shows in the English-speaking world. In the United States, where⁢ the show‌ is available on Disney+, it was one of the most streamed⁤ programs of 2022.

Considering⁢ the show’s influence on young viewers, Brumm’s‍ intended reference to ‍Jesus held significance. He drew inspiration from his days as a Catholic school student, where he encountered classmates who knew little or nothing about Jesus. Brumm found humor in the exchanges that could arise from these circumstances and wanted to incorporate that humor into “Bluey.”

His plan was to have one character mention⁣ Jesus walking on water, followed ⁣by Bluey’s innocent question, “Who’s Jesus?”⁢ Unfortunately,‍ the Australia Broadcasting Corporation, the BBC, and Disney rejected the idea.

Brumm agreed with the⁣ decision⁤ on age-appropriate grounds, acknowledging that 3- and 4-year-olds might not ⁤understand the joke. He stated, “It doesn’t belong in a ⁣preschool cartoon. It’s too weird. But it⁢ still made ⁣me laugh.”

While the exclusion of this Christian reference may have been well-intentioned,‍ it highlights the skepticism Christians often have towards the entertainment industry. Hollywood has a history of hostility towards Christians, as‍ evidenced by instances like Disney ⁢attempting ‍to remove references to God from the film ⁣”The Count of Monte Cristo.”

Until the ⁣industry changes its stance, Christians should not be⁣ surprised by the ‌omission‍ of references ‌to Christ, even innocent ones.
