The White House Implements New Rules for Reporters Attending Press Briefings
The White House has recently introduced new guidelines that reporters must follow in order to press room to conservative outlet, others to follow.”>continue attending press briefings. These rules, which include “behavioral standards,” have already resulted in one conservative outlet losing its seat in the room.
Starting from July 31, journalists who wish to renew their “hard passes” for White House press briefings must adhere to the updated guidelines. The White House emphasized the importance of professionalism, respect for colleagues and employees, and compliance with access restrictions and event protocols.
Reporters who repeatedly violate these standards may have their passes suspended or revoked.
Additionally, the new rules state that hard-pass holders must be employed full-time by a news dissemination organization, reside in the greater Washington, D.C. area, have visited the White House for work within the past six months, and possess press credentials for the Supreme Court, Senate, or House.
As a result of these regulations, several media outlets, including The Daily Signal, are expected to lose their spots in the press room.
The White House is engaged in a blatant act of censorship.

The Daily Signal, founded in 2014, has become a prominent conservative media outlet with an average of 2.5 million monthly readers. Fred Lucas, the Chief News Correspondent and Manager of the Investigative Reporting Project at The Daily Signal, has held a hard pass since 2009.
Lucas expressed concern over the press purge, stating, “It should be concerning to anyone when an administration attempts to select who can and can’t cover it.” He also criticized the lack of transparency regarding the number of journalists affected by the new rules and the administration’s failure to provide a justification for targeting non-compliant media.
While it remains unclear how many media outlets have been impacted, Simon Ateba of Today News Africa is another reporter who may lose his hard pass due to his confrontations with White House Press Secretary Karine Jean-Pierre. Ateba has been known to interrupt press briefings when not called upon, citing a lack of opportunity to speak.

Ateba has alleged that the new rules specifically target him, although he meets all the requirements. The impact of these regulations on other media outlets is yet to be determined.
