NC Dem chairwoman urges Biden to campaign, cites Dems’ ‘showing up problem’

The Chairwoman of North Carolina’s Democratic Party ‍Calls on President Biden to Campaign in the State

The chairwoman of North Carolina’s Democratic Party, Anderson Clayton, is ⁤urging⁢ President Joe Biden to make an appearance⁣ in the state ahead of the 2024 election. According to Clayton, the party does not have a “messaging” problem but rather a “showing up” ‌problem.

At just⁢ 25 years old, Clayton is the youngest chair in a state Democratic ⁢Party. She believes that Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris can help build excitement within the ⁤party by visiting ⁤North Carolina, a state that lacked enthusiasm during the previous presidential election and the 2022 midterm elections.

Addressing the‌ “Showing Up” Problem

During an interview with the ‌Washington‌ Post Live, Clayton expressed her perspective on the Democratic Party’s ‍challenges. She stated,⁣ “I think that‍ the idea ‍right ‍now is that the Democratic Party has a messaging problem, and I really ⁤don’t believe that. I believe we⁤ have a showing⁢ up problem.”

Clayton emphasized the importance⁤ of ⁢Biden and Harris running strong on their record and generating energy and excitement on the⁣ ground in North ⁢Carolina.‌ She believes that their presence can make a ‍significant difference ‍in the upcoming elections.

Key Issues for the Administration ⁤to Address

Clayton highlighted two major issues that⁣ the Biden administration could focus on in North Carolina:⁢ expanding access ⁤to the internet and reducing insulin costs. These are areas where ‌the administration’s efforts could resonate well with‍ voters ‌in the state.

However, Clayton also⁤ emphasized the significance of simply visiting and campaigning in North Carolina more frequently. ‌In the lead-up to ⁢the 2020 election, the Biden-Harris campaign only visited the state nine⁣ times, while former ‌President⁤ Donald Trump’s campaign made approximately⁣ 18 visits with former Vice President Mike Pence.

The Importance of North Carolina

North⁢ Carolina is considered a swing state with ⁣15 electoral votes. Despite its reputation as a ⁣purple state, the only Democratic president to win its‍ support since 1980 has been Barack Obama. In 2020, Trump ⁢secured‌ victory in the state by a margin of 74,481 votes.

Although both chambers of the state’s legislatures are ⁣currently Republican-controlled, Governor Roy Cooper, a Democrat, has demonstrated that the state is capable of electing a member of his party.
