Governor Abbott defiantly responds to DOJ’s request to remove Rio Grande barrier.
Governor Greg Abbott Vows to Defend Texas’ Border Barrier in Court
Governor Greg Abbott (R-TX) has declared that he will take the Biden administration to court after the Department of Justice demanded the removal of a floating barrier recently erected in the Rio Grande. This barrier was intended to stem the tide of illegal aliens pouring into the U.S. from Mexico.
The Department of Justice claims that the barrier violates federal law by obstructing U.S. waters without authorization. They are demanding that Texas remove the barrier at the state’s expense.
In response, White House Press Secretary Karine Jean-Pierre criticized Abbott’s actions, calling them dangerous, unlawful, and detrimental to the process of addressing illegal immigration. She accused Abbott of engaging in political stunts and lacking good faith in his criticisms of the administration.
Abbott, however, defended Texas’ actions during an interview with Bret Baier on Fox News. He emphasized that it is in the public interest for Texas to safeguard and secure its border from illegal entry. He also argued that the statute cited by the Department of Justice does not apply to Texas’ use of buoys as it is not in violation of the law.
Texas plans to litigate the case in federal district court, and if necessary, appeal to the Fifth Circuit Court of Appeals and the United States Supreme Court. Abbott emphasized that Texas is defending its sovereignty and constitutional right to secure its border.

The buoy barriers, which have been placed in the Rio Grande near Eagle Pass, serve as a deterrent for illegal immigrants attempting to cross into the U.S. These 4-foot-wide orange spherical buoys spin if someone tries to grab onto them, as reported by the New York Post. The barrier can be adjusted or extended as needed.
This initiative is part of Texas’ “Operation Lone Star,” which aims to combat the consequences of President Joe Biden’s immigration policies.
