Rhode Island to Distribute SNAP Benefits to Recipients in Seven Days
Rhode Island is gearing up to distribute all direct payments to Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) recipients for the month of August. Known as food stamps, these benefits will be worth up to $1,691 for Rhode Island residents and will arrive on Aug. 1.

With approximately 139,400 residents, or about 13% of the state population, receiving SNAP benefits, Rhode Island is committed to supporting its citizens. Nationally, over 41,200,000 people, or about 12% of the population, rely on food stamps.
In Rhode Island, the average payment per household member each month is $183. The maximum payment varies based on household size, with a household of eight eligible for up to $1,691, a household of four receiving a maximum of $939, and a household of one receiving up to $281. Each additional member in a household adds $211 to the SNAP benefits.
Convenient Use of SNAP Benefits
Active SNAP recipients in Rhode Island can conveniently access their monthly benefits through an electronic benefits transfer (EBT) card. This card functions like a debit card and can be used at grocery or convenience stores, supermarkets, farmers’ markets, and participating online retailers.

The current payment schedule for SNAP benefits in Rhode Island is effective from Oct. 1 to Sept. 30 for fiscal year 2023.
