Trevor Reed, a Marine veteran who was freed from a Russian prison with the help of President Joe Biden last year, has been injured while fighting alongside Ukrainian forces. Reed was transported to Germany for medical care after sustaining shrapnel wounds from stepping on a landmine about two weeks ago.
Warning Against Traveling to Ukraine
The Biden administration has repeatedly warned U.S. citizens against traveling to Ukraine, emphasizing the significant risks involved, including capture, death, or physical harm. Deputy State Department spokesman Vedant Patel clarified that Reed was not engaged in any activities on behalf of the U.S. government.
Reed’s Release and Wrongful Detainment
Reed, who was sentenced to nine years in a Russian prison in 2020, was released in a prisoner exchange last April. The U.S. government considered his detainment to be wrongful.
