Woman dies in fall from 100-foot cliff after proposal.
A Tragic Proposal: Woman Falls to Her Death After Engagement
In a heartbreaking turn of events, a newly engaged woman met a tragic end when she fell over a 100-foot cliff in Turkey just moments after her boyfriend proposed. Yesim Demir, 39, and her would-be groom Nizamettin Gursu had chosen a romantic spot in Canakkale, a city in northwestern Turkey, to celebrate their engagement with a picnic meal. However, their joy quickly turned to sorrow when Demir slipped off the steep cliff on July 6, as reported by the New York Post.
Gursu shared with local outlets, ”We chose it to have a romantic memory after the proposal. We drank some alcohol. Everything happened at once. She lost her balance and fell down.”

The groom-to-be had left Demir momentarily to retrieve food and drinks from the car when he heard her let out a horrifying scream. Rushing back to the spot, Gursu discovered his fiancee at the foot of the cliffside point at Polente Cape, according to Newsflash. Medics arrived promptly and attempted to revive Demir, who initially survived the 104-foot fall. Sadly, after 45 minutes of resuscitation efforts, she succumbed to her injuries and was declared dead.
An investigation into the incident was launched, and the area was temporarily closed off. On July 15, the location was reopened “in a controlled manner,” as reported by the Post.
The scenic cliffside is a popular spot for locals to witness breathtaking sunsets. However, it has been noted that the site lacks safety measures, as highlighted by Fox News. Friends of Demir also emphasized the popularity of the location but warned about the poor road conditions.

“This is a place where everyone comes and watches the sunset,” Demir’s friends expressed. “However, the roads are very bad and there is no precaution on the edge of the cliff. A fence should be drawn here, precautions should be taken.”
As of now, the status of the investigation and the official cause of Demir’s death remain unknown.
