Federal judge derails Hunter Biden’s plea deal.
Hunter Biden pleads not guilty to federal tax crimes
In a surprising turn of events, Hunter Biden has pled not guilty to federal tax crimes after his agreement with the Delaware U.S. Attorney’s office fell apart.
In June, the president’s son struck a plea deal with federal prosecutors, which initially included two misdemeanor tax crimes and a felony firearm charge. However, the agreement was derailed when the federal judge overseeing the case raised questions that exposed divisions between both sides.
Despite whistleblowers from the investigation claiming that significant felonies were left off the table, Hunter Biden was expected to plead guilty to a trio of federal charges.
IRS agents Joseph Ziegler and Gary Shapley testified before House lawmakers, revealing that the Department of Justice sought to hinder their federal tax investigation, which originated as a probe into a foreign pornography ring. They also accused U.S. Delaware Attorney David Weiss of allowing the statute of limitations to expire to avoid filing additional charges. Whistleblowers further alleged that they were kept in the dark about FBI evidence that implicated President Joe Biden in a criminal bribery scheme with Hunter’s Ukrainian business partners.
In the courtroom, federal prosecutors disclosed that the Justice Department is still considering charges under the Foreign Agents Registration Act (FARA).
The department has also offered Weiss to testify after the August recess, as revealed in a letter sent to the House Judiciary Committee on Monday.
This week, House Speaker Kevin McCarthy hinted at possible impeachment proceedings against the president related to the Biden family business ventures. McCarthy stated that an inquiry would begin if GOP lawmakers on Capitol Hill were denied access to crucial information.
