DeSantis questions critics: Harris or Florida in black history dispute?

Gov. Ron DeSantis Challenges Rep. Byron⁤ Donalds on Black History Teaching Standards

“[At] the end of the day, you’ve got to choose: Are you going ⁣to‌ side with ⁣Kamala Harris and liberal media outlets, or are you going to side with the state of Florida?”

“I think it’s very clear that these guys did ‍a good job on those standards. It wasn’t anything that ‌was politically motivated.”

Gov. Ron DeSantis (R-FL) recently engaged in a heated discussion with Rep. Byron Donalds (R-FL) regarding Florida’s new black history teaching standards.⁤ The controversy arose after⁢ Vice President⁢ Kamala Harris criticized ⁢the standards, and Donalds expressed agreement‌ with some of her concerns.

DeSantis defended the standards approved by the Florida Board of Education, ‍emphasizing that they shed light on the skills enslaved people developed⁣ “in spite of slavery, not because of slavery.” He argued that this approach vividly highlights the injustices of slavery.

During a meet and greet event⁣ in Chariton, Iowa, DeSantis acknowledged the importance of connecting with rural ‌communities. He expressed excitement about his⁢ bus tour and emphasized the significance of engaging ⁣with voters in these areas.

DeSantis’s Campaign Strategy Reset

DeSantis’s bus tour comes as part of a campaign strategy ‍reset and restructure. Recent polling shows a decline in his support, ⁣with an‍ average of 18% compared to former President Donald Trump’s average of 52%, according to RealClearPolitics.

Despite this setback,⁢ DeSantis remains determined and has already made multiple‌ trips to Iowa, participating in‍ numerous public events. His campaign spokesman, Andrew Romeo, emphasized DeSantis’s strong work ethic and ⁢commitment ⁣to connecting with voters in the Hawkeye ‌State.

As DeSantis continues his ‌tour, he is set to address the Iowa Republican Party’s Lincoln Day Dinner ‌in Des Moines on Friday, further solidifying his‍ presence in the state.

While challenges‌ lie ahead, DeSantis’s campaign remains optimistic, confident that his dedication and hard work will resonate with voters in Iowa and beyond.
