White House denies Hunter Biden pardon consideration.
White House Press Secretary Denies Possibility of Biden Pardoning Son
During a press briefing on Thursday, White House press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre firmly shut down any speculation about President Joe Biden considering a pardon for his son. When asked if there was a chance of a pardon, Jean-Pierre simply replied, “No.”
Presidential Pardon Power and the Justice Department
The power of presidential pardons is relatively unrestricted, but the White House has consistently emphasized that it does not interfere with the work of the Justice Department in this matter.
Hunter Biden’s plea deal, which would have allowed him to avoid prison time for tax and gun charges, fell apart in court on Wednesday, leaving the president’s son in a state of uncertainty. He had initially planned to plead guilty under the original agreement but ultimately pleaded not guilty to the charges.
Impeachment Inquiry and Denials
House Republicans have been considering an impeachment inquiry to investigate President Biden’s alleged involvement in Hunter Biden’s business activities. The White House has denied any business partnership between the Bidens, although it was previously stated that they never discussed business matters.
President Biden’s team has been cautious about commenting on matters involving Hunter Biden. Jean-Pierre reiterated this during the briefing, stating, “Hunter Biden is a private citizen, and this was a personal matter for him. As we have said, the president and the first lady love their son and support him as he continues to rebuild his life.”
She further emphasized that the case was handled independently by the Justice Department, under the leadership of a prosecutor appointed by former President Trump. For any further inquiries, Jean-Pierre directed reporters to the Department of Justice and Hunter’s representatives.
Increasing Questions and President Biden’s Support
The White House has faced mounting questions about Hunter Biden as his legal situation becomes more complex, and reports have surfaced about the president’s involvement in his son’s business meetings. Despite the scrutiny, President Biden has consistently expressed his love and support for his son, who has been battling drug addiction.
